The Proper Way to Screen Sport
As friends and football fans in Warminster, Wiltshire we (Nick and Pete) had a pet peeve – we failed to find a local sports bar that screened matches properly. What we consider “proper” is starting with the pre-match build up and running the commentary at a volume that can be easily heard.
We decided to solve our problem by opening up the Prestbury Sports Bar in 2006, where we and our fellow sports enthusiasts can now watch football, rugby, boxing and other popular pursuits with surround sound, streamed on big screens that are capable of showing three different games at once. There’s even a TV in the bathroom so you never miss a shot when nature calls.
As partners we’re pleased to say that our bar has earned its place as THE entertainment venue in Warminster – not just because of our superior sport screening but we’ve also become an integral part of the local music scene.
How We Became a Popular Wiltshire Gig Venue
Once the sports viewing had kicked off successfully, we realised we had the perfect venue for live music. With a raised stage for the artists and a low ceiling providing great acoustics, directing the sound into the room without distortion.
The space makes it possible for audiences make the most of expressing their appreciation of the music in many ways. You can dance on the large floor area, sit to listen and watch the stage, stand along the sides or at the back and tap your feet, or sit in the bar area (just off the main hall) and hear the music from a distance.
We put on performances by cover bands and specialist tribute acts, which go down a treat with our lively clientele. We also offer karaoke and bandoake (sing along with a real band) – and what would a pub be without a regular pub quiz (held on Monday nights). Skittles and darts are in the line-up too – our teams are always on top form!
It seems a shame to leave our premises empty during the day so we’ve started hosting wakes to give a fitting send-off to those who pass on in the local area. More serious than our evening events, but it seems appropriate to celebrate the lives of the departed as much as we celebrate the living.
Bar & Table Service
Of course, we couldn’t have built our bar into the successful venue that it is without the help of our dependable staff. We’re proud to say that our team tend to stick with us long-term – if you’re a regular at Prestbury you’ll probably know them all.
In charge of the pint-pullers is Bar Manager Mel Wright, who’s been with us for more than a decade. We like to provide prompt table service for the convenience of our customers, so whether you stand at the bar or take a seat you’ll be served by our super-crew: Bruce Coleman, Melissa Welsh, Sam Knight, Melissa Wright, Travis Arnold and Becky Pratley.
As for our customers – we’re indebted to them for their loyalty and enjoyment of everything we offer. They always embrace newcomers into the Prestbury fold. We’ve even be honoured with some visits from ex-professional footballers.
